ORACLE: A symbol of robustness for the database industry
Saturday, February 21st, 2009Since 1977 Oracle has been around the world one of the most important corporations in the realm of RDBMS (Relational Database Management Systems). Nowadays is a stronger company with dozen of products that have been implemented in all type of businesses, companies and organizations which manage some volume of data and information. We can talk about ORACLE as a company but also as a product. Its first release as product was in 1979 when a group of programmers developed the first version of a database system written in C. I don’t know if you have ever used ORACLE in some of its versions but I can personally tell you that ORACLE is probably more difficult to operate than others RDBMS but is a more stable and robust product. I would like shortly describe why I think ORACLE is a robustness symbol for the database industry:
1.Oracle was the first SQL-based database: A very positive thing ORACLE as product and company has is that they keep their leadership in the database industry. In 1979 was released the first database system based on the standard of “Structured Query Language”. There are people thinking that SQL is a Microsoft’s standard but the first company who used this standard was ORACLE for its first RDBMS and the pioneer in the database industry.
